I had the same thing happen to my bed. What I did was I worked with my dad to drill through the side rails at the top and bottom at the end where it split and used a washer and a more decorative ***** than a regular one to hold it together and then did the same thing at the end that didn’t split and on the other side rail so they matched.
Get some “gorilla glue”. Follow directions which says to moisten both sides of cracked wood prior to applying gorilla glue.
Get some clamps after you apply glue and clamp wood together. Let dry 1 day. Insert your rails back into the footboard.
